By plane

The closest international airports to Namur are Brussels International airport, actually located in Zaventem, and, Brussels South airport, actually located in Charleroi. You may also use the aiports of Amsterdam, Paris, Cologne, and Frankfurt which have good train connections to Brussels.

Brussels International airport is the main international airport. As may be appreciated by the following link, it is served by many airline companies. There is a train station in the basement, which makes the airport easily accessible from the center of Brussels by the Airport City Express train. This train links the airport with the three main stations in Brussels (Brussels Midi, Central and North) four times an hour. From one of these stations, you can directly reach Namur. We suggest you to take any train from the airport to Brussels and to change at "Brussels North" for a train to Namur. The journey should be about 1 hour. Timetables may be consulted from the Belgian Railways web site. Just enter "Zaventem aiport" as the departure station and "Namur" as the destination station. According as you use first class or second class, a one-way ticket should cost 13,30 EUR or 8,6 EUR, respectively.

Brussels South airport is a regional airport mainly served by Ryanair. Two bus lines link the airport to Charleroi-Sud station, from where you can take a train to Namur. The whole journey should take about 1 hour. The timetable for the buses is available from the Tec web site. There "Chareroi-Sud" refers to Charleroi-Sud train station and "Gosselies Aeroport" refers to Brussels South Airport. The timetable for the train from Charleroi-Sud to Namur is available from the Belgian Railways web site. Enter "Charleroi-Sud" as the departure station and "Namur" as the destination station. Please note that you can buy a "bulk" ticket at the Airport Disket desk in the Charleroi Airport, which for 10 EUR allows you to reach Namur train station from the airport.

The Institute of Informatics is at a 10 minutes walk from Namur train station. Once you are at this station, take the exit "Centre ville" which is the one close to plateform 1. Leaving the building, turn right and then go straight away for a few hundred meters. Turn left just before the tunnel; cross the "rue de Bruxelles" at the traffic lights and go down in "Rempart de la Vierge", along the park. An entrance on your left is marked "Faculte de Droit"; enter it, cross the parking, go down the street a bit, you will find the pedestrian entrance of the Institute of Informatics.

By train

Namur is on the line from Brussels to Luxembourg as well as on the line from Liege to Mons. Several direct connections also exist from Germany (Aachen and Koln), from France (Paris), from The Netherlands (Amsterdam, The Hage) as well as, thanks to the Eurostar from Great-Britain (London). Tables may be consulted on the Belgian Railways web site. The German Railways web site is another good web site to look for international train connections.

By car

Namur is located close to the crossing of two highways: E411 linking Brussels to Luxembourg and E42 linking Mons to Liege. According to the place you come from you can leave, on the one hand, the E411 at the exits 13 "Champion" and 14 "Bouge" and, on the other hand, the E42 at the exit 12 "Rhisnes". Following the instructions below, these exists will respectively lead you to enter the center of Namur at the places referred to by "Liege E42 - Louvain N91 - Bruxelles E411", "Hannut N80 - Liege E42", "Bruxelles N4 - Mons - Paris E42" on this map.

  • Coming from the exit 13 "Champion" on the E411

    Follow the main road in the direction of Namur. Pass on the bridge over the railways and turn to the right in the direction of the station. Then take the left lane and go under a short tunnel (*) and just after turn left (to "Facultes") between the river Sambre and a park. Take the first left and then the first right. After a few meters you will find on the left the entrance of the parking of the Institute of Informatics.

  • Coming from the exit 14 "Bouge" on the E411

    Follow the main road in the direction of Namur. After about 3 km, you will see a rail bridge. Turn right there in the direction of "Gare" (station in French). Use the right lane and go under a bridge (actually the bridge mentioned for the exit 13). Pass the station and then follow the way indicated above.

  • Coming from the exit 13 "Rhisnes" on the E42

    Follow the main road to the direction of Namur. After about 5 km, you will pass on a bridge. At the second red lights, turn right (*) and then take the first to the left. Take again the first to the left and then the first to the right. After a few meters you will find on the left the entrance of the parking of the Institute of Informatics.

Please note that you are not allowed to park in the parking of the Institute of Informatics. Instead you have to park at the parking visitors situated "rue Henri Lemaitre". To reach it, at point (*) of the above description, go straight ahead instead of turning left. Pass a first round-about and at the second round-about take the 4th exit. You should be in the "Avenue Reine Astrid". Take the first street to the left. You are in "rue Henri Lemaitre".
